The puffy jacket is monopolized by two major brands: Moncler and Uniqlo. They are. Both completely different but the point is the same: we wear puffy jackets to be warm, not for fashion. They are not the height if chic, they make you look like a swollen tire. This past winter was the coldest on record for many places in the world on record. So that means we are getting really practical in fashion…. There were an incredible number of puffy jackets on the Tokyo runway for AW 2014 in menswear. But seriously, can down jackets EVER be fashionable ?

In tokyo, down jackets are de rigeur, even though they tend to be outfitted in colorful cookie cutter uniqlo vests– meanwhile my friends in NYC tend to hide that ‘ish underneath their alexander wang or Acne coats (ingenious really)
Well the mens designers in tokyo don’t want to be left out of the down game, but instead they have come up with an incredible amount of ways to use down in hybrids to spice up the designs.
2014-15 is the year of the evolution of the down jacket. How about a down button-up dress shirt? Or a tailored blazer with down vest applique ? Or a down t-shirt? Check out some if the franken-hybrids the Tokyo mens designers came up with for next season, you might actually start to LIKE puffy clothes….
