TOKYO FASHION WEEK DAY 1: GETTING CAGED IN MONOTONE

 東京ファッションウィークのコーディネートダイアリー１日目：アンリアレイジのケージドレスで「モノトーンモンスター」

I am a fan of Hikarie as a venue for Tokyo Fashion Week, perhaps because I am a sucker for beautiful night views and the shows are held on the 11th floor surrounded by tall glass ceilings here. It’s only the second season here, but being stuck in the basement at Midtown Tokyo was some major bad fung shui if you ask me. Did you know the first two seasons of Tokyo Fashion Week were actually held in tents at Gaienmae Park with huge video screens showing what was going on outside? But it was such a long walk from the station and so far removed from the lively streets that only industry people bothered to stop by. Plus, tents cost major MOOLAH. So that idea was nixed. And the best part of Hikarie is having easy access to restaurants and cafes. SCORE.

先シーズンよりファッションウィークのオフィシャル会場になったHikarieが個人的に大好き過ぎるのですが、何がいいかってまず地上１１階という構造上都心を目下に望めるということ。夜になると夜景が本当に綺麗。まだ今回で２シーズン目ですが、歴代のファッションウィーク会場の中でも上位に食い込むほどのお気に入り。古には、東京コレクション開催当初には外苑前公園の特設会場(しかもテント)で開催された時もあったのですが(そこでは外観にスクリーンが張られていて、コレクションの様子を映し出していたりと実験的な試みもされてたのですが、とにかくこの時の印象としては駅から遠くて不便という思い出しかない…)それに比べ交通アクセスも抜群で、レストランなどの施設も揃ったHikarieは本当に便利。

Today I kicked off fashion week in a cage dress from ANREALAGE for SS 2013. I wore it today because I was only going to 1 show..and I couldn’t sit in it due to the stiff construction of the skirt, and needed to stand. ANREALAGE said, “We would love to lend you the runway sample, but…you can’t sit in it, you know.” I said, “That’s ok, I`ll stand then.” I was inspired by the story of Anna Dello Russo wearing a jewel-encrusted Mary Katrantzou skirt in which she wouldn’t be able to sit. So instead she bent her knees and pretended to sit, all while hovering inches above her seat. Now THAT’s dedication!

I just wore flats so I wouldn’t get tired. ;)
