When November rolls around and you’re at Laforet in Harajuku you’ll see a portal to another dimension of fashion. The brand is REEM, and you can’t miss it: it’s the tent set up in front, and there’s usually a crowd gathering about it. REEM is one of it’s own, a no-rules, no-holds-barred, my-way-or-the-highway type of brand. That is to say, REEM is from the magical streets of Portobello in London and everything is made by hand in a completely organic and unexpected way. Many of the pieces are repurposed vintage, so you’ll find bits a pieces patchworked to eternity and beyond themselves (she doesn’t waste a scrap!). 

 毎年１１月になるとラフォーレ原宿で開催される、年末の風物詩がある。それは、REEMによるファッションショー。この巨大なファッションビルのエントランス前に設置されたテントでは毎年、新作のお披露目ショーに合わせてポップアップショップがオープンする。REEMといえば、ルール無用で一点一点ハンドメイドで洋服を製作するブランド。ロンドンのポートベロストリートにアトリエを構えるこのブランドの、オーガニックかつ思いもよらない斬新な手法で製作される洋服はいつも新鮮な驚きに満ちあふれている。多くの作品はヴィンテージの洋服をカスタムしたものだが、その中でも目を凝らすと端切れをパッチワークにして使用されているのが分かる。

She creates her collection themes yearly, and this time it is “Take me to the circus…Daddy”. She presented it on Nov 5th with an installation night show in front of Laforet. The clothes were so beautiful, imagination-inspiring and dare I say, SEXY! It reminded me of one of her past collections “Bubble and Squeak” which was shown on the runway during Tokyo Fashion Week. It’s not only one of my favorite collections of that season, but one of the best of ALL TIME in my opinion. This collection echoes what I saw then: so fresh, yet still on trend, and putting a stamp of affordable luxury and glam into it. These are afterall, one-off pieces where no two are ever exactly alike. I know designer Reem Alasadi has major fans who save up all year just to buy from this pop-up shop. 

ルールは無用とはいうものの、毎回彼女なりのテーマに沿って製作されるREEMのコレクション。今回のテーマは“Take me to the circus…Daddy(パパ、サーカスに連れてって)”。先週ラフォーレのエントランスにてインスタレーション形式で発表されたこのコレクションは、毎度のことながらため息が出るほど美しく、さらにはいつになくセクシーな印象だった。以前東京コレクションのスケジュールで発表され、私の中で一番のお気に入りだった“Bubbles and Squeak”コレクションを彷彿とさせる今回は、フレッシュでトレンドの要素も混ぜ込みながらもラグジュアリーでグラマラス、かつ気楽に着られるという一石二鳥も三鳥も捕えるほどの優秀なコレクションだった。この世界観に魅了されるファンは当然私だけでは無く、毎年“REEM貯金”をしているという不動のファンを数多く抱えている。
