PHOTOSHOOTS IN THE CRAZIEST OF PLACES….GETTING INSPIRED BY SUPERMARKET “TAMADE”

なぜ、ファッション界はフォトシュートの舞台を変わった場所にすることを好む？・・そうえいば大阪の「スーパー玉出」！

“TAMADE, that crazy supermarket”.

My ears perked up. A crazy supermarket? I was in Osaka, asking for shops to visit and here my friends Shuhei and Momoko were talking about supermarkets, of all things. “It’s amazing, you’ll love it.” This is coming from the girl who had giant 3D lizard lips for an iPhone case, so I felt I was in good hands. 

「スーパー玉出。ぶっ飛びスーパーマーケット！」

ふと耳にとまった。「クレイジースーパーマーケットって？」大阪でのことだった。ちょうどシュウヘイとモモコって友達といて、2人が私におすすめなショップの話をしてる。「もう、すごいの！驚くよ！ミーシャ、絶対好き！」そう言って、私と同じような一風変わったようなものが好きなモモコが言うなら間違いなし。…なんだかワクワクしてきた！

The thing is, I didn’t want to go to the supermarket to get food. Food was not on the menu. Hearing “crazy” and “amazing”, the first thing that pops into my mind was “photoshoot!!!”

Now THAT is what’s crazy. People who work in the high-fashion industry will try and do photoshoots in the craziest places possible, because, well, weird=beauty. Of perhaps we see it as a challenge, to be inspired by a location and use our magic to make it a piece of art. 

Shuhei even said to me, “It would be perfect for a photoshoot.” Yah, see!! 

正直な話、私食べ物を買うためだけにスーパーに行きたくなかった…。食べ物は眼中にない。「クレイジー」とか「驚く」って聞いてる。それを聞いてパッと最初に頭に浮かんだのは…フォトシュート！

 今、まさにその「クレイジー」を目の当たりにしている。ハイファッション業界の舞台に立つ私たちにとっては、フォトシューティングを行うのには、イカレてるくらいの場所が適してたりするの。なんでって？そうね、weird=beauty 気味が悪いものほど、逆に美しい部分があったりするから。それは時に受け入れ難いこともあるかもしれないけど、インスパイアされるには最高の場所かもしれない。私たちのマジックで、アートのカケラを作ろう。

Shuheiも言ってる。「フォトシュート撮るには完璧な場所だよ！」。ほら、な。そして行ってみたら・・・

And yes, this place WAS amazing. It was like being thrust into a 70s anti-drug cartoon, one that’s supposed to be a warning to hallucinations but instead is a rhapsody of stimulation. Forget the super cheap fruit and meat (they ARE super cheap; it’s a discount store, the cheapest in Japan according to their equally cluttered website), the story is in the walls and the ceiling, with cartoonish scenes of rainbows and kaleidoscopes drawn in neon lights like a coloringbook. It was incredible not only for it’s overbearing ugliness, but the fact that the neon lights were ALL working. None of of them were sputtering out or dark, it was in tune and clean, not unlike Disneyland. Or a pachinko parlor. I grabbed some smoked ham for like a buck and left that candy-coated vortex of questionable produce behind. Verdict? Photoshoot would DEFINITELY be in order. No question.

確かにそこはすごかった！例えるなら…そうね、まるで70年代のアンチドラッグマンガの世界に吸い込まれたような感覚だった。まず、それは幻覚に対する警告であるように感じられて…というよりもむしろ、興奮する気持ちが爆発して吐き出されたラプソディーのような...。安売りのお肉や果物のことは忘れて。(彼らのちょっとゴチャゴチャしたサイトによると、全部超安い、日本一安いディスカウントストアらしい)お話は壁と天井に詰まってる。マンガのワンシーンみたいにカラフルなレインボーカラーで描かれていて、ネオンライトで万華鏡のように映し出される様子は、まるで塗り絵のように塗り替えられていく。それはもう素晴らしかった！ただ単に醜くて威圧的なだけじゃなくて。事実として、あんなにたくさんあるライトが全部ちゃんとついてたし。飛んじゃってるライトは一本も無かった。しかもお手入れもちゃんとしてあってクリーンだった。なんだかディズニーランドのようで、でもパチンコパーラーっぽかったり…。私は雄ジカのように、ガッと素早くスモークハムを掴んで、何なのかわからない異様な雰囲気のキャンディーでコーティングされた渦の中に置いてきた。…評決？いつか、フォトシュートは紛れもなく確定ね。間違いなし！

What are some of the craziest locations you’ve seen in a photoshoot? Personally, the strangest place was in an old mens restroom. But in magazines I’ve seen, my vote goes to the meat locker shoot in NYC by Steven Klein. Rumor has it model caroline Trentini went vegetarian after this. hooeee   

あなたが今まで見てきたフォトシュートの中で、ここが一番ぶっ飛んでる！って思った場所はどこかある？私は個人的に一番衝撃的だったのは、あるおじいちゃんのトイレでのシューティングかしら？でも雑誌で見た中では…。そうね、私の一票は、ニューヨークの精肉加工現場でのシューティングに決まりねっ。フォトグラファーはスティーブンクライン。このモデル、Caroline Trentiniはこの現場のせいでベジタリアンになったらしい。
