Unwrapping the “Paper”
The look comes from a label called PAPER London. The whole collection is one gift-wrapped present, with box folds, triangles, and structured satin “wrapping”. Red is a celebratory color around the world, but especially so in Asia where even rice is dyed red when it comes to special occasions. I never thought that red could be a mysterious color since it’s so gregarious and obvious, but I think Celia and I achieved something uniquely mysterious here. It’s raging …yet coy.
PAPER London’s prerogative is to take simple straight lines and polish them up with eye-grabbing solid colors and textures that command the room. The SS collection that I wore above caught my own eye while PAPER was exhibiting in Tokyo during fashion week and I couldn’t resist a graphical, futuristic, luxe outfit.
The emerging label is designed by Kelly Townsend, formerly of Temperley and Philippa Thackeray a lawyer-turned-designer. The nice thing about these looks is that they can totally transform depending on the persona of the person wearing them; there’s the girlie-girl, the minimalist, the urban vixen, the quirky chick. Although there is not a dedicated store for Paper in Tokyo yet, but it’s already super popular with stylists since it’s available to them at Mahna Mahna.
