…Ok, second you should know he is now a designer. And if you’re in the Shibuya neighborhood then go over to Aquvii Tokyo where Yoruko Banzai is holding an exhibit/trunk show until the 10th
Yoruko got his start with some wild costumes and intricate work before taking on outside customers. Last year he had a line of bags that proved quite popular. Especially the round bag. Observe exhibit A:

YORUKOはもともと自身のコスチュームをメインに製作していたのですが、その才能が開花し昨今ではバッグなど実際に販売するものも製作している。特に昨年発売された円形のバッグはストリートでも大人気でしたね。ご覧：

This time he introduced suspenders, belts and bracelets to his oeuvre. It is all customizable with a number of colors and baubles (like pearls) since Yoruko makes them all himself. 

今回新たに発表されたのは、サスペンダーやベルト、ブレスレットなどのアクセサリー類。これらの商品は全てYORUKOの手によって一つ一つ作られるので、”あの色で作って欲しいな”とか”ここにはこの装飾がいいな。こっちにはパール。”なんてわがままも叶えてくれるかも！

The collection is called “equation” and I showed up just as he was putting up a giant hand sketch of a “theory of banzai”  formula (haha I don’t know if it’s actually called that) .

今回のコレクションは”Equation”と呼ばれ、”セオリー オブ 万歳”(このネーミングはミーシャ勝手だが 笑)のハンドスケッチが施されたもの。

Aquvii is a cool place to check out anyway, I often include it on must-see lists for buying souvenirs or unique little doodads from tokyo. And although I expect it to be crawling with tourists, every time I go it’s full of stylish locals. (just as I was here a girl purchased a wallet? made out of AstroTurf. ) 

そしてこのエキシビションが行われているAquviiも、東京で今注目を集めるクールスポットとしてマストチェック。私が行く時はいつも海外から来た珍しいものが好きな人だけでなく、近郊に住むスタイリッシュな人たちでいつも賑わっている。

Depending on what materials you choose, yoruko’s pieces can run from 10,000 to about 30,000 yen.

ちなみにこのYORUKO作品は、素材カストマイズでも１～３万円で収まる良心的な価格設定になってるのもうれしい！

 

YORUKO BANZAI
Born on December 15th, in Osaka.
He attended contemporary circus while studying at university. Besides performing, he also worked as scriptwriter and choreographer. Around the same time he started making costumes. After relocating to Tokyo, he launched the creative project “BANZAI”. Since then, his works have been shown in Tokyo, London, and Osaka.
