MASAYA KUSHINO’s NEW COUTURE SHOES ARE FIT FOR “QUEENS” OF WAR, THORNS AND LIGHT.

 Masaya Kushinoによる新作コレクション「Queen」は光、闇、大地、茨、戦の女王を表現しているクチュールの靴。

I hope your fashion belly is rumbling and grumblin because it’s time for a heavy duty shoe buffet. This time it’s cooked up by Masaya Kushino who recently presented his new collection of 5 conceptual and couture shoes in Tokyo. The exhibit was titled “Queen” and with these screaming, flamboyant pieces you’ll see they are not just for royalty sitting on a throne if ya know what I mean.

さてさて皆さん、ファッション食欲中枢は動いてますか？？覚悟して下さい、今から世にも美しい靴のフルコースを提供しますよ！！というわけで、今回Masaya Kushinoの新作のクチュールピースの靴が発表されたということでギャラリーに行ってまいりました！！“Queen”と名付けられた今回のコレクションは、今までにも増して装飾性の高いピースが出そろい、その豪華絢爛な出で立ちはまるでロイヤルの風格！

ということでデザイナーのクシノ マサヤさんに今回のコレクションのアイデア、マテリアル、そして構造などの視点から解説してもらいました：

I smell a tie in with Batman. Or a vampire film. Or my shoe closet. 

This time my theme was “Royal Queen”. Recently I have been making a lot of conceptual non-wearable pieces so this time I wanted to focus on some stylish beauty and coolness. Queens are things of desire and the emblem of beauty, after all.

I only made 5 pieces this time but each one is a completely different design concept so there’s still a lot to see.   

今回は、”Queen”女王をテーマに制作しました。最近はコンセプチュアルなテーマで作品を作る事が多かったので、ファッションの醍醐味でもある、美しさや格好よさなどをメインに表現したかったからです。Queenは女性の憧れであり、美しさの象徴でもあります。

 

新作は５足と少ないのですが、それぞれ異なるデザインで、似たような表現をしていないため、ボリュームは有ると思います。

I imagined a handful of queens from fantasy: the Light, the Darkness, the Earth, Thorns, and War. 

 

I also took great care on choosing the best materials for the pieces this time. For example I used crocodile, ostrich, goat, fox, crystals, and natural stones which I think represent both strength and femininity just like my queen muse. I also employed contradictions like mixing hard with soft, and natural with man-made materials so as to express a strength-and-weakness viewpoint. To give as lasting an impression as possible, I even used special processes on simple leathers. 

 

光、闇、大地、茨、戦で表現しており、それぞれファンタジーに出てくる女王をイメージしています。

 

今回は特に素材にもこだわっており、クロコダイル、オーストリッチ、ゴート、フォックス、クリスタル、天然鉱石など、より女性的で有りながら強さも主張しています。そのため、ハードな素材にはソフトな素材、天然の素材には人口的な素材など、組み合わせに強弱を付けています。印象がフラットにならない様に、シンプルな素材にも加工された革を使 用しています。

 When I make my pieces I am interpreting traditional Japanese artisanal techniques in my own way. For example the sting ray heels are made in the image of the sheath of a Japanese sword. Gold leaf is also a traditional technique and I used this on embossed leather. So this collection is a lot more decorative than in collections past.

 

作品を作る際、日本の技術や伝統を自分なりに意識しているので、刀の鞘からインスピレーションを受けたエイ革のヒールや、実際に箔を焼いた素材を、はぎの上から金箔の様に貼って加工したりしました。そして、今までの作品よりもさらに装飾的なのが、今回の新作の特徴でもあります。
