Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2014 is Totally “I ♥ the 90s” Hashtag OMG Girly & Grunge BFF

Models whisked past me in a fury. I was on the curve so it was just enough to catch them before they raged past. My first thought was like “Oh, it’s about the 70s! Or like, a 50’s pastel palette view of the 70s!” but then I was like, “Wait, it’s like the 80s! Masculine! But maybe like an 80’s view of the 50’s in a pastel palette..” Wait. “It’s totally the 90s! Minimalism! Grungy! But like, the 90’s view of the 60’s in a pastel palette…”

So basically, the pastel palette was the only thing I was sure of. God, our obsession with pigeon-holing every collection into a decade, right?? Well, style.com says it’s 90s and vogue.com says it’s 80s so I guess no one can agree anyway. Let’s call a truce. A pastel-colored truce.

So silky dresses made to look a bit baggy and slouchy composed of cheerleader uniform panels, star motifs and lots of sparkles. And grungy flat sneakers worn with the dresses… maybe it IS the 90s. The blue eyeshadow could have thrown me off. The cheerleader dress may be a throwback to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music video.

So brush off your pastels, practice your pout, slouch, and D.A.R.E. to get 90s-fied. #Ima90sbitch #loveit (o wait, no hashtags in the 90s. Nevermind)

私を通り越してモデルが運ばれて行く。どうやら激しい興奮状態の様子。私はちょうどカーブしている位置にいたのでしっかりカメラがその目捕まえることができたみたい。私が最初に思ったのは、「これは 70’s だ！それか 70’s 目線の 50’s パステルパレット！」だけどちょっとして「いや、待って、これは 80’s だ！男性的！だけど多分これは 80’s 目線で表現する 50’s のパステルパレットの１つだ！」待って。「これは完全に 90’s ！ミニマリズム！グランジだ！… でもだけど 90’s 目線の 60’s パステルパレット？… 。」
