Lady Gaga, Daphne Guinness Shoe Designer Noritaka Tatehana Pops up at ISETAN, Gets Charismatic

Noritaka Tatehana is considered one of the most “charismatic” cobblers of our new global generation, hashing out vertiginous heel after vertiginous heel for such crazy-famous ladies like Lady Gaga then my hero, Daphne Guinness among others. I went to see him the other day and was reminded that “charismatic” doesn’t necessarily mean loud and chatty like a used car lot salesman, because Noritaka is as cool as a cucumber and would prefer to keep silent than talk your foot off. His shoes speak for themselves anyway.
Noritaka は私たちニューグローバル世代の中で、最もカリスマ性の高いシューズデザイナーのひとり。眩暈がするほど美しいヒールの数々を手がけ、のちにあのイカレたスーパースター、レディ・ガガの靴も手がけている。他にも私のヒーロー、Daphne Guinness の靴も。先日、彼を見にうかがった。そこで私は「カリスマ性」というものを再び思い起こした。カリスマといっても、彼は中古車セールスマンのようにうるさくておしゃべりという雰囲気は全く、まるで落ち着き払っていて、足元を語ることよりも、静寂を保つことを好む様子だった。むしろ彼の作った靴自身が語りかけると言える。
I went to meet him at Isetan and to see his pop-up shop, the first time ever in his career. It’s only a few display cases worth, but his collections are small and designed to perfection. He has about 30 of his new pieces and archives on display, including his first heelless pair, some pink ones made of sting ray leather. I remember these being the pair that had me just fall head over heels(heelless?!) for his work. I actually managed to walk in those babies! See the ruby red beauties and his black collection, which is both incredibly wearable and achingly chic at the same time (I think I’ll order the toe shoes..below). Speaking of wearable, he is now the head designer of shoe brand The Daughters which has put out an incredibly easy collection of sneakers with heels. They are made with traditional organic dye and basbeall leather. The founder is 北舘洋一郎 who is considered one of the biggest sneakerheads in the world. Noritaka has his work cut out for him!
会いに行ったのは、Noritaka のポップアップストアが伊勢丹で開催しているから。彼の経緯の中でも初めてのときだった。コレクションの作品点は少ないが、完璧にデザインされていてとても価値のあるもの。約30の彼の新作とアーカイブを含め、ディスプレイをしている。彼のキャリアの原点といえる、初めて作ったヒール無しのピンク色エイ革作品も見える。当時、この靴に惹かれたのを記憶にしていて、実際にこの子たちで歩いてみた！
ルビーレッドの綺麗な靴と、ブラックのコレクションを見てみて。双方共、眩しく素晴らしい。このポップアップストアでは私みたいに試着できるけど、みなさんも夢中になりかも？！難しそうなーデザインは実は実際に着用できて、だけど同時にとてもシックでもある。(私は下のトーシューズが一番気になる。)
そしてまたニュースが発表され、Noritaka は The Daughters のヘッドデザイナーに起用された。それらは伝統的な技法でオーガニックな染料やベースボールレザーから作られている。創設者は世界で最も大きなスニーカー界のトップの一人、北舘洋一郎氏。Noritaka は、まさに彼に最適で最高の職人！

A new brand of sneakers co-created by Yoichiro Kitadate, a shoe director selected as one of “The 50 Most Influential People in Sneaker History”, and also engaged in projects such as AIR JORDAN and PUMP FURY, and Noritaka Tatehana, the artist of NORITAKA TATEHANA, a brand adored by fashion icons like Daphne Guinness and Lady Gaga. The brand name originated from the idea of daughters inheriting the DNA of all their accomplishments to date. Their debut launch features the official baseball leather upper and Indigo Leather, dyed using the traditional Japanese technique of organic indigo. By the way, Noritaka’s work is ALL for sale, albeit made-to-order. Prices run from about 400,000-2,000,000 yen (4k-20k). Go meet him on there on the 10th and check it out before it’s gone on the 13th.
