Powerstones schmowerstones. If it looks like a stone, quacks like a stone, Imma call it a stone. And this sculptured jewelry by Kate Rohde are certainly beautiful enough to be considered honorary stones.
巷で人気の(今はどうなのか知らないが)パワーストーン。
I found these beautiful pieces of high-end costume jewelry during one of my bouts of desperate procrastination (“Gotta find some something to make it worth it to keep from plopping in front of the PC all day!”). Rohde is an artist based in Australia and she got her start when she collaborated with Romance Was Born on a biologically-themed collection which is the concept of her work, and it is one of the most avantgarde labels from that continent.
So Rohde makes colorful, disturbingly bubbly sculptures of drippy biological context and is represented by Saatchi online. Her “crystal” jewelry is beautiful work, somewhat reminiscent of the jelly shoes and other plastic jewelry all the rage now, but these are definitely not throwaway pieces. In fact, I don’t see this really fitting street fashion, but rather would put put on the arm of a woman in an elegant gown who wanted something to play up the outfit.

And let me just say it if you haven’t noticed yet; these are bangles, NOT rings. Big, beautiful sculptures of resin for your arm. Each one is one-off and at only 400 Australian dollars, is not bad at all. The earrings are only $60! This proves that a stone doesn’t need to be “precious” to be worth it’s weight in gold.
