Tonight the runway for the international talent support (ITS) revealed the winner of the 12th round. That winner was South Korean Han Chul Lee.
His collection was menswear and it was inspired by the yakuza and their tattoos. He interpreted it with intricate leatherwork on the back and the sleeves with designs that purposely showed off the shoulders with impeccable tailoring. I spoke to many of the judges personally this morning (and they all had fascinating things to say about fashion that I will write about later on) and they all agreed that the quality on all of the pieces was incredible. In other words, this was going to be a battle of who was able to capture the zeitgeist; who was the most interesting? Who’s going to get the buzz?

I loved Xiao Li’s knitwear dipped in silicone.

Also, Nelly Hoffman mixed religious iconography with urban hip-hop and gangster elements that was SO stylish. The styling was just really incredible and spot-on. It’s incredible how American hip hop has become a symbol of style the world over.

He won a special award from Imran Amed of Business of Fashion to mentor and connect him to possible clients to build his brand because Imran and Nicola thought his tailoring was so impeccable.
この方は急遽、特別賞「ビジネスオブファッション賞」を与えられた。BoFのImranとニコラがテーラーのスキルにあまりにも圧倒し、どうにかメンターをしてあげたかったという意思から”いきなり賞”を作ったみたい。ファッションって、こういうのは良いね。ルール無しで。

It really really was a laboratory on creativity and if it’s getting better every year I’m honestly looking forward to the next one. Personally, my favorites didn’t win (neither the fashion, or accessories stages) but there was no clear winner. Each one was so individualistic… the judges said they all had arguments over the winner, the way it should be! Survival of the stylish.
