FACETASM’S LAYERING WIZARDY IS TOP IN CLASS. TOKYO FASHION WEEK 2013 SS

It’s like watching a pot, waiting for it to boil; it seems to take forever. And when living in Tokyo it seems nothing in the fashion week changes and everything stays the same. Well, that’s not the case
clearly (as much pros in the industry like to huff and gruff about the Japanese fashion industry) as this was only Facetasm’s 3rd runway show and it’s already been rocketed to the top with a huge show to open Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. That was quick, no?!!?

It is a brand then tends to be all over the place, culling a huge mix of inspirations for it’s clothing that tends to be heavy on urban-inspired streetwear with American “work” clothing as another
major axis. Then the brand throws in awesome styling that makes it very clearly “Tokyo”- and bam, uber attention acheved.

Here it was the magic of layering. NO ONE can do layering like the Tokyoites can. It is perhaps something in the blood, what with the many layers of kimono. And women are encouraged to wear multiple layers or “inners” on a daily basis so they get very good at it. I also like to layer my clothing, and feel very boring if I don’t have a few “levels of flavor” to my outfits.

The womenswear at this show tended to stick to miniskirts with lots superflous decorations. Not as good as the men’s stuff which pretty much rocked.

それはまるで、湯沸かしポットを眺めているような気分。でもいつまでたってもそのお湯は沸かないのだ。日本のファッションウィークは元来、新しい流れが起きづらく面白みがないと言われ続けてきた。しかし今回のファッションウィークで、初日にしてすでにそのセオリーに反する好評を得たのがFacetasmだ。今回３度目のランウェイショーとなったこのブランドだが、その活躍に年月は関係無く、今回は既にオープニングの晴れの場を設けられ、更にその期待を上回るド派手なショーで観客を魅了した。

今回のコレクションはアーバンテイストを色濃く反映したストリートウェアが多く発表されたが、そこにアメリカのワークウェアのエッセンスが加わり独特のムードを醸し出していた。そして、そこに更なる東京らしさをプラスしていたのがスタイリング。このスタイリングによって、個性ある洋服が更にブラッシュアップされた。

やはりレイヤーをさせたら東京の右に出るものはいない、と言わんばかりにスタイリストの手腕が光る。おそらくその美的感覚は、着物を着ていた時代からそのDNAに組み込まれているのだろう。そのセンスに魅了される外国人は数しれず、現に私も今となっては自分のコーディネートにいくつものテイストを混ぜ込まないと不安を覚えるまでになっている。.

レディースの装飾が施されたミニスカートも魅力的だったけど、やっぱり目を引くのはメンズ。１ルック出てくる度に目を見張る見栄えだった。
