First up is the Dom P x Jeff Koons collabo Rose bottle set that will be released on September 10th. It’s…BEYOND. We know Koons as the man behind the balloon dog sculptures, but this time it’s a giant pink “venus” woman with a swelling belly. It’s yours for $20,000 USD and totally bespoke/serial numbered.
THEN, last week Dom Perignon had another “Dark Night” at IDOL in Aoyama, which is an event that brings out the fashion and artist tribes in Tokyo for a night of bubbles and schmooze. The first one featured fashion with DRESSEDUNDRESSED and last week it was TENKI, an artist trio. If you do not know who they are then you MUST…I`m serious, MUST check out more of their work here, your life will be better for it.
They did live calligraphic painting on a Japanese screen which they projected objects onto making for some truly unique shadowplay. After that, Takayuki Suzuki showed his skills as a fashion designer with a paper dress made out of the screen (??) that he put shaped and pieced together in real-time.
FINALLY, this week was a huge Dom Perignon party at the Yoyogi Stadium in Harajuku that was a release of the 2004 vintage. It was a more elegant stage, but the art was still there; a collaboration with artist Akira Yamaguchi and GAINAX. Akira is an artist who paints in the old-school Japanese woodblock style but instead of villages he paints modern, twisty, surreal, and jarring metrpolises. He teamed up with GAINAX which produced the Evangelion anime to make it animated, and the work was projected on a huge 360-degree screen in the stadium.
I got to meet some old and new friends this time, namely the up-and-coming Uramune sisters Ikue and Miyuke who told me some great news about a project they are getting up to in Paris. I hope to talk to them more about it very soon.
