Japanese girls have no qualms about showing off their gams, and while Shibuya-fashion girls tend to stick to bare legs, the Harajuku fashion set likes to cover up, usually with tights. So the tights/stocking obsession in Japan is still a big one, and since it’s summer the tattoo stockings are all over the streets.
I love myself some tattoo stockings as well, and most of the ones I own come from the Ura-harajaruku shop “Avantgarde” which got the whole trend started. The shop had some trouble even keeping stock replenished (they still do!) and in the meantime a lot of new tattoo stocking brands with neato and artistic prints have popped up around Japan.
An online tights shop and for their first collection they asked Osaka-based pop-artist Buggy (who I just talked about) to lend some of his pop-art to their stockings. You can get some Karl Lagerfeld, Galliano, or Kate Moss with a mustache. I want some of these, of course.
This is an “original brand” by select shop Kakavaka and do not ask me why it’s called Cowpooooop (that’s 5 “o”s) but I loved the wi-fi print ones enough to buy it, and wear it in my profile photo for the senken h newspaper feature up this week. To make it next-level, it would be great if they were actually wi-fi…
These can be ordered online and is a collaboration project among a bunch of Japanese and international artists. I did a design here… all sold out though :/
