I just love that in Tokyo we have Bunka Fashion College’s graduate MA fashion course now, called Bunka Fashion Graduate University, because it not only hones the skills of local hopefuls , but also because it brings in tons of international kids who are helping to broaden the industry’s horizon. Some of the advantages to commiting to studying here in Tokyo might be that the pool of graduates is much smaller and your work will stand out; you get to learn impeccable Japanese sewing and cutting; you get to use subsidized Japanese textiles (which are AMAZING); and you get to live in of the most inspiring places in the world. The downsides being that you must learn Japanese before you can get started, and also that it’s unfortunately so far removed from the greats like Parsons and Central St. Martins, it doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

文化服装大学院大学の卒業ショーは東京が誇るデザイナーの登竜門ともいえる。それは、左脳ある日本のデザイナーの卵たちがトップレベルでスキルを競うだけでなく、国際的な横のつながりを広げられるから。東京でファッションを学ぶ利点のひとつは、海外に比べ規模が小さいため注目を集めやすいということかもしれない。日本の高い縫製技術を学べて、日本独自伝統的な素晴らしいテキスタイルに触れられ、そしてなにより世界一刺激的な街かもしれないこの東京で毎日を送る事が出来る。ただ、入学前に日本語の勉強は必須だし、今のところパーソンズやセントマーチンといった世界の服飾校にはまだ及ばないのは少し残念なところ。後は卒業生のキャリアにおける成績をあげることでしょう！

The graduation show was held last week, and 10 worthy collections walked down the runway. I usually cherry pick the collections I like for the blog, but this year I thought all of them brought something interesting to the table. Looking through the pics closely again, I am so glad I tried to snap as many pics as possible because there are SO many beautiful pieces here! I am ecstatic. I would build a harem of gorgeous clothing with them. Guys, you rock! Which one is your favorite?

先日、卒業制作ショーが開催された。そこで見た10人のランウェイコレクションは本当に素晴らしかった。普段、ブログに取り上げたいと思うものをいくつかピックアップして紹介しているのだけど、撮った写真を振り返ってよく見てみると、まず大量に写真を撮っていた事に気付いた。それだけ良かったルックがあったということにすごく嬉しくなって、喜びを感じた！この服たちに囲まれてハーレム気分を味わいたいくらい。もー君たち最高すぎる！さあ、あなたのお気に入りはどれ？

JongHyuk Lim “ILBON”

It’s really hard to impress me with knitwear. Knit can so easily make the body look so wrong. But I like the “armour” patches on these dresses, and they are strong but very feminine. I`m also a sucker for oversized sweatshirt dresses now…

ニットウェアは身体のラインが出ないから着膨れしそうであまり得意じゃないミーシャ。でもこのドレスの”鎧”みたいなパッチはいいかも！強さを持ち合わせたフェミニンも素敵。個人的にはオーバーサイズのスウェットTシャツドレスが忘れられない…

Uene Diego “Synestheisia Report”

I just….I am DYING for the houndstooth coat outfit. Those color combos! Wide legs! All of it!

Zhou Yuren “Timelayer”

Here is another oversized, boxy silhouette collection that is working some amazing layering magic. The neon accents are a retro throwback and the patchwork stitching is a fun addition. Check out the black shoes with the orange stripes too; great idea!

このボックスシルエットのオーバサイズコレクションはレイヤリング技術が光ってる。ネオンのアクセントはレトロな空気感を産み、パッチワークのステッチも面白みを足している。ブラックシューズにオレンジのストライプなんて、ナイスアイデア！

BONUS show:

Jullia Velugo

She chose to work with Mondrian…a seriously BALLSY move since it’s been done to death and rebirth. It teeters on too much homage, but the menswear looks fresh. Maybe there’s some interesting construction skill going there that I can’t see through the camera lens.

ジュリア・ベルゴ

彼女はモンドリアンをソースに展開。力強い動きをするモデルたちで”死と生まれ変わり”を表現。かなりしっかりオマージュされているが、メンズウェアはすごく新鮮だ。きっと、カメラレンズを通してでは見えない、技術力あってのクリエーションなんだろう。
