I seem to be on an origami kick lately, and that’s the internet’s fault… because one photo leads to another, and one website link leads to another….and next thing I know I`m knee deep in amazing photos and designs that make me drop my jaw.
Fashion has been inspired by the art craft of origami for eons… in fact, kimono is the ultimate form of origami-as-fashion (you know the kimono is totally sewn flat, not on a 3D torso like traditional western fashion).

Galliano is a master of drama and if anyone could make origami look so amazing so as to take your breath away, well this is gonna make you need a respirator. This couture collection was inspired by Japonisme and the cranes and other well known origami folds are interpreted literally and oversized on nearly every dress.
ドラマチックなコレクションのマスター、ジョンガリアーノ。息がとまるほど美しいおりがみを洋服に落とし、みんなの馴染みの鶴などをそのままオーバサイズに飾られ、シュールな舞台を作り上げた。

Iris van Herpen is the youngest couturier on the block, and she is known for fusing technology and science into her clothing. She loves to use origami shapes, most likely finding beauty in the geometry and being able to create lightness (hollow inside) while building a 3D shape.
Irisは若手のクチュール師として注目を浴びてる。彼女のシグナチャーとして、科学やテクノロジーと洋服のミックスをランウェイで発表して、驚きとサプライズのあるコレクションはいつも拍手をよせる。Irisが折紙に魅了を感じてるのは、たぶんジオメトリーと3Dな形を軽くできるところでしょう。
Issey Miyake 132 5 /InEi
Issey Miyake’s 132 5. line is directly inspired by the *function* of origami, in that the clothing can be folded up completely flat yet keep their folds and creases when worn on the body. Above is from the AW 2013 collection.
イッセイミヤケ先生のニュープロジェクトとして数年前にはじまった “132 5.”。こちらは折紙の機能性からヒントを得た、畳むと完全に平になる３D洋服を打ち出してるライン。フラットなのか、３Dなのか、不思議感がたまらない。
