WELCOME TO THE 2.5 DIMENSION BETWEEN FANTASY AND REALITY. SHOOTING THE H&M x ANNA DELLO RUSSO COLLECTION IN TOKYO.

This past month I have become increasingly fascinated (uh, obsessed) with the idea of a 2.5 dimension.This is a space that lingers between the motions of being a person in the real world melded with the fantastical side of an imaginary 2D one.

Actually, this idea comes from Akihabara. On the NHK kawaii TV set recently I met with Hitomi who is  arguably the most popular maid there and she told me about this concept.

“The key is don’t look too fake.  But don’t look too real, either”

この一ヶ月の間、私はめっきり2.5次元というものの虜になっていた。これはつまり、2次元(＝マンガなどの平面世界)と3次元(＝現実世界)の間、ということでまさにファンタジーとリアリティが共存する世界なのです。

Fascinating! But what does that mean? For a fashionista this is so easy to understand its almost scary..in the industry it’s like living between the real world and the fantastic  pages of fashion editorials in the magazines. Oh how we wish we could swath ourselves in McQueen gowns with chiffon that goes on for days as we hunt for peanut butter at the supermarket! Or something like that (maybe that’s just my fantasy).

なんて魅力的！とはいえファッションピープルにとってはこの考え方、とりたて目新しいものでも無いのではないだろうか。特に雑誌の超現実的なファッションエディトリアルに見慣れた人達にとっては、アレキサンダーマックイーンのシフォンガウンを着てスーパーにピーナッツバターを買いに行く光景なんてのは容易に想像出来るはず。

But really, as for myself, I feel like I’m already in this “2.5 world” without even realizing it sometimes (for example, getting to wear amazing works of wearable art is fantasy, but the real world part is somehow getting from point A to point B wearing it without a team of assistants or chauffeurs !)  But I still wanted to try it out as a concept for a shoot myself.

It was great timing then that H&M exclusively lent me as many pieces from the yet unreleased Annna Dello Russo accessory line as I wanted for a fashion story for this blog. I scooped up about 10 tons worth (it’s NOT plastic….it’s actual metal that has considerable weight!)

Without further ado, misha and photographer Mami Tanabe present to you a night in Tokyo….in 2.5D!!

そんな時に絶好のタイミングでH&Mよりお声掛けがあった。本邦未公開のAnna Dello Russoのコラボラインを山ほど使わせてもらい、このブログでエクスクルーシブなファッションストーリーをやらせて頂けるとのこと。ウキウキでリースに出掛けた私には、10tの重さの衣装も苦では無かった(アクセサリーなんかは、ちゃちなプラスティック製ではなくちゃんとしたメタルで出来ているので本当に10tくらいあったはず。)

それでは皆様、私ミーシャジャネットと、フォトグラファーTanabe Mamiによる2.5次元の世界をとくとお楽しみあれ！

  The jumpsuit and the dress are amazing, the accessories too. But the best side is that you took that “Dello Russo” style and changed it from something very italian, baroque and opulent into something truly Tokyo-style. You’re unbelievable!
