3.1フィリップリムが世界初で開催する限定バーは東京に登場！”"THE ALTER FOR SUB-CULTURE”の暗闇の中でデザイナーを歓迎して・・
I remember my first encounter with the Phillip Lim brand in Japan… I needed some “Shanghai”-ish clothing for a celebrity shoot but I had no connection to them. So I cold-called. Luckily, the celeb was on the ”good” list (“Phillip LOVES her!!” was the response) so I was in good graces. Fast forward and I own several rare showpieces that I’ve purchased over the years, and have been able to keep in touch. Tonight, it finally all culminated in being invited to the welcoming for Phillip himself to Tokyo, which is a very rare occurrence.
Tonight was the launch of the 3.1 Phillip Lim Pop-up bar “The ALTER for Sub-Culture” (with the cross, maybe it’s [sic] altar?) that is taking place at Sunday Issue in Shibuya for a limited time only. The theme is industrial speakeasy, with boys in dandy suits, slick hair and saloon mustaches not being out of place here. It is based on the Lim fall/winter collection inspired by devil-may-care “Rude Boys” so it’s made to be a bit rough, dark and hella strong. I`m talking about the alcohol here. Absinthe!! GAH! I took big swig without really realizing what I was drinking… I thought I smelled anise, but….GAH! It’s something you can’t get out of your mouth, like a photo you can’t get out of your head… like when you accidentally see family naked. GAH!

…I washed it out with parmesan cheese and fresh ham. Better.
While I talked about the wonders of cheese I hear next to me, “You speak Japanese?” and standing there is a beautiful, exotic-looking girl. I looked at her Lana del Ray-meets-Tao face and laughed…”And you too?!?”. It was Juliana, the uber popular magazine model who is here with Chihiro Ooide, also a model and a classmate of mine from Bunka Fashion College.

Gui Martinez of JAGR magazine as DJ spinning old-time tunes.
It seemed like the entire Tokyo fashion scene converged in the tinytwo-room space for the first time in AGES.. whoo-boy was it crowded! But I ran into some other familiar faces:

The girls from Plumpynuts. PLUMPYNUTS! I just needed to say it again.
Shunsuke and Yusuke transformed to supermodels in .01 seconds
Speaking of supermodels, this guy with the smile is mens super-model Daisuke Ueda who is like a stallion in his ad campaigns and runway appearances… but in real life he is the easiest-going person you’ll meet. Look how short I am, even *with* heels on! Pictured with major Donna agency model Shohei Yamashita.
Jason from H30 showroom tries to steal my soul with his camera.
Phillip showed up quite fashionably late (kinda rare for Tokyo appearances?!) and somehow made it to the bar to chit-chat with Juliana and model Jessica Michibata. I would have pushed my way over there, if I was wearing one of my Lim pieces… you see, I mistook the event for yesterday and wore the dress all day without realizing it. And it’s a beautiful pink dress from the runway with swirly zippers all over it. I tried!
It was then that it was time for me to go so I ran out into the downpouring Tokyo rain with a gift in hand and a green-fairy-tinged skip in my heart (GAH!).
