Japan is a nation that has a penchant for the good things in life, and that includes designer goods. And one of the most beloved in the whole nation is Louis Vuitton. And that’s not just among the rich or fashion bourgeois, but no doubt that the baker or butcher down the street knows the brand, or may even have his own LV wallet at home. And that’s because the relationship between Louis Vuitton and Japan goes back a very long way.
The “LV” monogram itself is inspired by Japanese “mon” or coat of arms, and no less than three Japanese artists have been tapped for major collaboration since the start of this century (Takashi Murakami, Comme des Garcons and Yayoi Kusama).
So now Louis Vuitton has chosen Tokyo to be the second city to get their large-scale exhibit, “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez- Louis Vuitton“. Stepping inside, you’ll find a myriad of rooms displaying the personal trunks of founder George Vuitton and his friends and family through the decades. It’s a literal “trip”, taking you through the desert, into the air, on trains, and more.
(continued, 3F-4F) We’re taking a bottom-to-top, inside-out tour of possibly the best store in the world, Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo. If you’re unfamiliar with the shop, you might want to start with the digest version I’ve written here for ANA, for the uninitiated (in English). See the artwork, the exclusives, and why it’s the world’s ultimate shopping destination. So settle in and slowly suck on the eye candy. 1F-2F is here and5F-rooftop is here
Design your own original shoes web venture “Shoes of Prey” is now in 3D
One of the most innovative sites to have been born from the digital shopping age is “Shoes of Prey”. I have used their services before and praise it on high. And now it’s gone and upped itself by offering your design previews in 3D. It looks amazing! And even more amazing was the fact that the example they used on the media release email (above) was a pair that I actually designed before (below)?! It’s too much of a coincidence?! I should get sales from this baby? ;) (Shoes of Prey 3D)
Gucci updates it’s iPad app, gets more social
GUCCI has updated it’s app-magazine “Gucci Style” which *is* one of the best brand apps I have ever used. It has video, sketches, and it came in handy when looking for cool cafes in Italy. Now it’s expanding it’s circle of friends and connecting to the real world through Facebook, Twitter, etc. (download from iTunes)
”One of the brands with the shortest names in the world, Y’s” is how the press release began and I was charmed. The brand established in 1972 celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Mazeltov! There will be a limited pop-up shop on until Tuesday (the 6th) at Shinjuku Isetan’s “The Stage”.
Japanese brand furfur’s mother company “Flavor” has merged with long-standing kimono brand “Yamato”
omg, be on the lookout for “forest girl” kimonos very soon! ?

Louis Vuitton loves Japanese artists more than Japan does. For real. The next artist collaboration features the best friend polkadots ever had, the infamous Kusama Yayoi. The products themselves haven’t been revealed yet, but the “Infinitely Kusama” site is now open. It is sure to be AMAZEDOTS. (louisvuittonkusama.com)
Speaking of Kusama, she just designed this lingerie for Une Nana Cool. It features the amazing yellow and black motif often seen in her pumpkin series. I know this sounds too childish to be associated with lingerie, but Iwant!Iwant!Iwant!Iwant! It’s available at Une Nana Cool shops from the 24th but will be sold early at Aoyama’s Spiral 1st floor from Wed 15-19th. (wacoal)
SOMARTA’s contribution to the Madonna Superbowl halftime show. Seamless lace bodysuits for the backdancers. “We’ve been working on this since December,” tweeted designer Tamae Hirokawa. So incredible, otherwise presented without comment. See more: (V Magazine)
ソマルタがマドンナのハーフタイムショーに提供したのは？！ そう！あの有名なシームレスニット“skin series”! “12月から取り組んでます”とデザイナーの廣川玉枝さんがtwitterでつぶやいた。圧倒的！ (V Magazine)
3.1 Phillip Lim’s 31 Hour Bag Series coming to Japan I see this bag picked up all over western fashion news sites, so great to see it available over on our little fashion island. It will kick off with a launch at the Aoyama flagship on the 23rd before going on sale to the public. The motto for this is “For those who feel 24 hours isn’t enough.” *raises hand* I have this disease…SO HAPPY there’s a cure! Phillip Lim
Maison KITSUNE opens first American shop. Next month, A new hotel is opening in New York city called the NoMad (NoMad= “North of Madison Square”. … … … …^^;). INSIDE this new hotel will be Kitsune’s first North American boutique. You know Maison Kitsune as the music+fashion brainchild of Francophile Gildas Loaec and Japanese architect Masaya Kuroki. Mark your calendars! (kitsune.fr)
Taishi Nobukuni created the Agent Provacateur logo?! Your totally random fashion trivia of the day: Japanese fashion designer Taishi Nobukuni drew the now-famous stylized and sexy typography for lingerie brand Agent Provacateur when he shared an apartment with creator Joseph Corre 17 years ago on Illustrator. The more you know! (agentprovacateur.com)
Laduree teams up with Tsumori Chisato for some extra-sweet macarons Tsumori Chisato has produced a set of macarons and a sakura-scented candle for Laduree. I have never eaten so many macarons in my life than when I was in the Saint-Germain-Des-Pres Laduree boutique in Paris and I HAVE NO REGRETS. The Tsumori ones are making me hungry…Mmm. It was time for the big dogs. I had to take a bit of a breather before going in because I needed a game plan… this LV Omotesando flagship is multi-floored and full of nice stuff that my grandma would give a rap on my hand if I went around getting all grabby-grabby on it after all.
But then I remembered… It’s my JOB to get all grabby-grabby….in HEAven.

Actually, I wanted these rubber super platform fetish-heel rain boots since I saw them from the show and exhibition. I have been looking for a pair of really really cool black high-heeled rain boots forever. Just my luck, they had ONE pair left. But they were waaay too big. Dammit. No matter!! I tried them on anyway—
