アイドルの裏面。ミキオサカベ2011年秋冬コレクション in 東京
Mikio Sakabe contrasted his spunky, sugar-fueled Akihabara Idol Group Performance show with a somber 2011 fall/winter collection that was a bit sad and possibly hadn’t washed it’s hair in weeks. He explained that this was done on purpose, to show two sides of Japan’s “idols”. We get the energetic side when the girls are “on”, but when they are “off” and aren’t performing for fans, there is often a darker side where they hole themselves up in their rooms alone (called “hikikomori” in Japanese). I am not sure if this is from personal anecdotes as he is certainly close to many Akihabara idols, but it’s certainly something to make you go “hmmm” as you muster forgiveness for the CHRISTMAS PRINT dresses.
Of course, this is from the same designer who brought us suits embroidered with french-fry motifs and homages to KFC’s Colonel Sanders last season, so it’s actually quite conservative. This collection is wearable and although small, packs pieces for the office worker, Harajuku urchin and agoraphobic hottie alike. Check it out below.
