I keep looking at this issue…and NOT just because the rainbow colored “Numero” letters on the cover are so pretty to look at…
but because I have been featured as a “Tokyo style expert” in the December issue! Such an incredible label itself is such an honor for me. It’s all about getting your shopping on in Tokyo and doing it like the style masters do. I divulge a lot of my tips and tricks..and even take you to my my favorite shops that have always been my own little secret.
Of course, as you’ll see, I have my own particular style and tend to be in my own kitschy-futurism-tokyo-retro bubble when it comes to taste…so your mileage may vary. I hadn’t even heard the word “tongari” style until Numero told it to me (it’s “pointy”…and I am giving myself the benefit of the doubt that it means “individualistic”. Or maybe it just means “painful”? haha)^^;; YOON and Nana Katase were pretty individualistic too. In fact, Numero TOKYO has been sprinkling their pages with the avantgarde again recently… and individuals with unique taste are so important to our industry so I am SO PLEASED to see it given so much push in a big magazine.
I picked up on shops XANADU, Dog, Kika Style, Too much, Alcatrock and Harcoza. Are you on top of things? Know them all?
Hat: Mich Dulce (Kika Style), Choker/necklace/spike bracelets: Too Much (laforet),
Vintage Dior jacket/Vintage Pierre Hardy shoes (Alcatrock), Velvet and Lace dress: Tomo Koizumi/
Patent clutch: Nick Needles (all at XANADU), Rings/ cuff bangle: FLAKE/flower corsage:
Christophe Coppens (all at Harcoza), spike on shoulder (DOG Harajuku), tights (Vive Vagina)
I also talk about some of my fav-o-rite online shops like modcloth, Wanelo, and Shoes of Prey. I talk about shoes of prey ALL THE TIME because it’s so awesome… to be able to design your own shoes. I`ve made several pairs…you can even start from what I designed (above), and then change the color, shape, and material as you please. I think I want some glitter + purple horsehair booties next….
Thanks so much to Numero TOKYO…their pages may be flat, but for this issue, I’d say they are honorary tongari.
