Silver Week (a 3-day bender week at the end of September in Japan) already seems like a far-off memory. But being up on stage is not something that one forgets so easily…especially when there are actual people watching (or outlines of human figures…the lights kindly make it difficult to see much detail).
So thanks to everyone who came to see my show. I know it was announced as a “talk show”, but it was more like a mini-play. With a script I wrote and everything (Ahhh!). On the outside, it was a story about a modern-day Little Red Riding Hood. “She’s living in Tokyo, who as a popular model needs to get a makeover for her “debut” as a pop-artist. Along the way, she meets friends like Snow White, the Evil Stepmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and the Fairy Godmother, who each take on a part of Red Riding Hood to improve.” That improving was actually done by the audience, who had to choose from style keywords like “punk”, “retro”, “cute” or “80s” I had pre-selected. The majority was the winner, and Riding Hood would appear within seconds changed into the piece of clothing just chosen.
It was NOT easy to pull this off! But thanks to Sioux, my lovely ”Riding Hood” model who changed in a flash, my assistant Shunsuke, and to the audience who actually participated-thank you!. I gotta say, when I first suggested something like this to Laforet they kinda met me with blank stares…but I`m a writer and stylist, what else am I supposed to do on a stage, really?! Eek.
Anyway, this presentation was a thinly veiled as a showing of just HOW MUCH an outfit can change by just adding or removing one accessory, or even how much our images can change just through clothing. It’s a tale as old as time, really.
AND one thing that I can reveal now about it, is that the clothes were provided by one of Tokyo’s HOTTEST shops ever, CANDY– which may seem weird since CANDY is not a tenant in Laforet. BUT, they soon will be, for a limited tme!! Starting this Friday, CANDY will have a pop-up shop in Laforet and they have a ton of collabs and special guest appearances planned. The Little Red Riding Hood x CANDY show was just a preview of what you may find at the pop-shop come Friday!!

At the climax of the story, Red turns into a wolf herself. This was especially fun.
