てことで大阪アングラSHOPツアーはexcubeでスタート！ターザンキック、レオキャンディケーン、ヨルコバンザイ、Pussymo等で「Chicks on Speed」のコラボ展が開催中！
Last weekend I went to Osaka for the first time since last November when H&M opened up, and before that it had been like 4 or 5 years… which is sad considering it was my HOME my first year in Japan. Well,
this time it was only for one night…for ROGGYKEI’s party, and the following day we went on a whirlwind trip of 9 awesome Osaka-only shops (look forward to: Roggykei, Percentum, Jajacucya, Visit For,
Palette, Ahchachum Muchacha and Teknopolice!). Normally I only feel comfortably going in order, but I`m going to kick this off with the last store I visited before getting on the bullet train home. They are
having an awesome exhibition right now with Chicks on Speed and I want to get this up before it ends.
The day before I had met a lot of the local Kansai fashion characters and we all had a reunion again at the Chicks on Speed reception party at ex-cube the following night.
Excube is a used-clothing store plus high-end streetwear select shop. This is not unusual at all for a Japanese fashion boutique, but what is unique here is that tdorector Aono-san mixes the used stuff in with
the new higher-end items on the rack regardless of their price. He explained he doesn’t consider used clothing any less than the designer items and vice versa. I found myself digging through the racks and always pulling out the most expensive pieces of the bunch (my mom would tell me I have had a knack for doing that my whole life. So I have expensive taste….).
Well, hello friends! It’s been awhile!!!
Prints by designer brand Tarzankick
Because this label is called “Pussymo” and I am 11 years old.
This long dress is a tribute to both B.I.G. *and* Tupac. Just get a karma cleanse before you wear it.
I loved how there was this little kids’ table in the middle of the shop with snacks and all kinds of drinks. Aono told me it’s BYOB here and they gather almost every night to drink. Sounds like fun!!! It was such a shame I had to leave because I wanted to pull up a chair and join them.
On the other side of the shop facing the road is a gallery area and it was being used for a collaboration with electro-clash group Chicks on Speed. Chicks on Speed formed in 1997 in Munich, Germany and
have done all of the cool things you’d never think of: an illegal bar in Zurich where Dada artists converged, a suicide label that started from single #10 and counted down to 0, and they “DJ”-ed by smashing
records on a mixer while a casette tape played tracks. You can see that Karl Lagerfeld is even a fan:
Here Aono was able to acquire some of their costume archives and other memorabilia for display.
He also got a hold of some of their old band t-shirts and gave them to local Kansai and Tokyo designers to create one-off pieces to sell at the exhibit:
YORUKO BANZAI (who, according to his Twitter feed, is in Berlin with Chicks on Speed now)
そういえば、ヨルコのツイッターTL見ていると、Chicks on Speedと一緒にいるなうだそうだ。
I got to know Momoko and Sho
Take a look at both of their iPhone cases! Momoko’s is SICK and I need it in my life! It was funny because my own was hardly recognized down there in Osaka and yet it is EVERYWHERE in Tokyo. Goes to show the trends aren’t the same in Osaka as they are in Tokyo.
So if you’re in the Kansai region definitely make your way to excube. It’s a little bit off the beaten track and it took forever to walk there from Namba City, but it’s worth the trek. And look forward to more from freaky Osaka!
