My mom always told me, “If you have family or good friends in a city that you visit, you should stay with them.” But my Dad was all, “Nope. Nope. Nope. Even a motel is a better idea.” I swing both ways, but have also come to appreciate a great hotel room that makes me feel excited yet relaxed at the same time as I travel the globe, and I am so very picky about the atmosphere I surround myself in.
For example, designer hotels are the BEST. Unique, comfy, fun, and special. Tokyo has only TWO designer hotels… CLASKA (which is so far away from everything it might as well be in Korea) and Granbell (a budget hotel, so may be a bit too squishy for many experienced travelers). When it comes to unique, modern or boutique hotels, Tokyo sucks. Just gotta put that out there.
But I was half a world away in New York City thanks to the new American Airlines Haneda to JFK route and since I was to have an adventure I chose three different hotels to stay in. That in itself is not easy…but I think you’ll see exactly why I chose them:
Crosby Street Hotel:
Location [場所]: SOHO
This hotel is the ultimate charmer…your pants will be off when you walk through that door. Set right on Crosby Street in the heart of SOHO, I came here for scones with George in January and fell in love with the incredible design inside. It’s a boutique hotel designed by Kit Kemp and each room comes with it’s own flavor. But the torso in matching fabric was a cool element to tie all the rooms together (and the torso just tugged at my heartstrings). Although the interior makes it seem a bit classical, there were totally modern elements like the bathroom TV, neon plastic stools and contemporary art decorating every nook and cranny of the building. And there’s even a brand new movie theater/screening room in the basement with seats the color of Minute-Maid available for rent.
It’s a really quiet hotel, perfect for chilling and has a really great restaurant where I brunched at Saturday morning with other travelers and stylish new Yorkers alike.
このホテルは超… 超が３つ付くくらい魅力的！SOHO の中心、Crosby Street に位置していて、
Wearing my necomimi
There was even a farm up top and I got to meet the chickens..one had a really goth-punk mohawk hairstyle going on.
Hotel Z NYC
Location [場所]: Long Island City

So Hotel-Z is a newer hotel, located in Long Island City. That makes it sound like its a day trip away, when actually its just a step across the river heading to Queens. You might wonder, why the frack stay outside of Manhattan!? Well, you can’t ever see anything properly unless you step back from it, and this place has every room facing midtown Manhattan for the most incredible view of the city day or night. The reflection of the lights from the skyscrapers and the bridge framed by the sparkling river and sky is like a snapshot from the movies. But we don’t sleep standing against the window so looking inward, the room was a size that metropolitan urbanites would be comfortable with; you have the necessities. I loved the stencil of the girls doing the can-can on the wall and the mason jar lights hanging from the ceiling. There’s a roof party here on the weekends with celebrity DJs that goes well into the morning. I stuck to the room and the restaurant in the basement which had the best sweet potato fries— then got on the shuttle that takes you directly to midtown complimentary every hour. But seriously, this hotel is closer to midtown than the upper east side is. And if you want to explore the neighborhood, the museum of modern art PS 1 is just a few blocks away.
Hotel Z は最近できたホテルで、Long Island にある。一歩川をまたいで Queens へと向かうので、シティからはちょっと長旅に思える。
Location [場所] : Meatpacking District
This is the second Dream hotel in Manhattan and it’s also my favorite. I was doing research and as soon as I saw this hotel I knew it was for me. The windows are circular, so you feel like you’re on a spaceship floating in the metropolis sky. I walked into my room and was greeted with an amazing chill out soundtrack playing on the TV and a bottle of red wine from the region I grew up in. Helloooo…talk about amazing service (Coincidence?! I will give them the benefit of the doubt..either way it’s great taste in wine)! The colorful beauty care amenities were by Etro and the decor matched the POP theme (or perhaps it’s champagne bubble-themed?) with circles from corner to corner. There are a few clubs here, a basement rock n roll joint called “Electric room” (that hosted Mick Jagger’s bday party and performances by the likes of Courtney Love and more), and a big penthouse club called PhD. I didn’t get to visit them this time but I was at electric room and phd in January this year and both were totally hopping. I remember that bouncers here are picky because everyone’s pretty much young and beautiful but guests miiiight get some help getting in. *wink*. The lounge is cool enough to just chill in and the pool area is space-y as well. It’s a futuristic oasis in one of the world’s most advanced cities…
ここは Manhattan に2番目にできた Dream Hotel 。もちろん私のお気に入りのホテルのひとつ。リサーチしていたときにこのホテルを見つけるや否や、

So which one is your favorite? Do you have your own “best” NYC hotel? I’m going back for fashion week and might want to go return to one of these and feel like I’m at “home” away from Tokyo…If I`m already not too late.
Special thanks to NYC & Company
