Who run the world? Anna Wintour. And we are all just her subjects. There may not be a Queen ruling over the planet earth, but in the fashion world (which is pretty removed from the “real” Earth, let’s be honest) she is The Leader. Now, she is getting another notch in her belt of Greatness, thanks to the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute’s announcement that they will be changing their name to “The Anna Wintour Costume Center”. Holy Moly! And why, exactly?….
“Ms. Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue and artistic director of Condé Nast, has been a Met trustee since 1999, raising about $125 million for the Costume Institute alone. Since 1995 she has presided over 15 benefits there, turning what was once just another fancy fund-raiser into a must-attend event that attracts fashion designers, actors and celebrities from around the world.” (NY Times)
The Met holds over 35,000 pieces of fashion history spreading over 5 continents, making it one of the most important fashion museums in the world. Director Thomas p. Cambell says they Wintour is his great friend, expressing satisfaction with the rename. Here are some shots of Anna at the Met Gala, opening in May as Anna at the Anna Wintour Costume Design Center Gala (your bit of knowledge o’ for the day: Anna’s favorite brand to wear to the Met Galas is Chanel couture)
