Right now the name on everyone’s lips is Miley Cyrus, whether it’s a “Girl is killin it!” or “Kill the girl”. In Japan, she kind of just elicits a shrug.. they’ve never really made scandal into stardom. However, when it comes to Marc Jacobs, people will take notice. And people are noticing that there is something REALLY different about the Marc Jacobs ads this season, unlike the Juergen Teller ones we’re used to…
And that’s because he *didn’t* take them. That honor belongs to David Sims, who shot the star while Juergen Teller “Simply didn’t want to shoot her.” Is it because she’s a celebrity who does silly things? Obviously not, since Jeurgen shot Victoria Beckham playing around in the giant Marc Jacobs shopping bag before. As for Miley, who revealed the ads on her own instagram, has worked with Marc Jacobs extensively, even posing naked for this “Protect the skin you’re in” T-shirts campaign. The ads are the darkest we’ve seen from Jacobs in eons, and perhaps it’s a nod to a new era, where Jacobs is no longer head designer at Louis Vuitton, and instead putting more of a focus on his own line. If there’s any indication, it’s gonna be a cool and dark Jacobs from here on out…. until the next collection, of course.
