The theme for this episode of “Misha’s 2.5 Dimension Life” column running monthly in SOEN Magazine is “Getting twisty with it”…well, actually, it’s “hineru” which means “twist” in Japanese. The English version is online NOW so check it out.

It’s all about looking at clothing in a different way, for example creating head wraps out of shirts or perhaps wrapping a tie around your waist as a belt. As I was writing, I recalled a story an aquaintance I met here in Tokyo from London she told me: “I was a student in NYC and I wanted to crash a Chanel party but since I didn’t have an invite I just had to pretend I didn’t need one. I also didn’t have anything to wear… so I took a “Chanel” garment bag and wrapped it around my body, sewing and stapling it up as I went. Not only did I get in, but my photo was printed in the NY Post as one of the best dressed!” Well!
I’ve tried using a tablecloth as a dress before, (to a miumiu party, no less) and it takes a little bit of practice. Also make sure you have plenty of brooches or safety pins on your party clutch just in case!
In the photo for this column I am wearing a top by Japanese brand Runurunu which was on purpose because the brand’s identity is all about twisty shapes and patterns and mixing things up. The whole collection is amazing, check it out above.
