This “episode” of 2.5 dimension Life in SOEN magazine was all about mixing things up. It took me a little while to feel comfortable with mixing elegance with with streetwear or vintage with futurism, but in the end I realized only two things mattered: 1) balance (on the body) and 2) Confidence. At the end I challenge everyone to try and gauge how people around you may react to some “mixing up” of your own by wearing two similar but different shoes on each foot for a day. If that won’t work, try it with socks. I think you’ll be surprised to see that people are more interested in themselves than the sartorial adventures of someone else. It’s a challenge to boost confidence in unique styling and to open your horizons. Tom Burton’s wife Helene Bonham Carter even did this on the red carpet and ROCKED it. Consider her your mix-up muse.
To illustrate my point, I wore three dresses from HISUI’s SS 2013 showpiece line. These are all mix-and-match ready and can be zipped up with any other half. They were so much fun to wear and the people in this arcade seemed to enjoy interacting with me. My favorite is when a rather honest older man said Mami and I looked good (as opposed to “crazy”). Thanks honest older man!
