Come rain, come post-modern cataclysm, nothing can keep an all-American girl from her beef on bread at the neighborhood diner….

Photographer Celia and I had the most fun on this shoot- we ran around to an abandoned diner in Sendagaya (no, the apocalyptic location in the photo is all from Celia’s imagination though I wish a diner like this actually existed), to hakuichi (箔一) to get Japan’s most exquisite gold leaf, and finishing with real lunch at 3rd Burger in Aoyama (the most fascinating burgers in tokyo— I had the edamame burger, natch. No, the gold leaf kanji 寿 which means “long life” is not usually included) . At the end, a western man came up to us and asked if we were blogging… Well, yes, I admitted as such. But he would be sorely disappointed to find out it was all for fashion and we were desecrating the food with Chanel’s beige nail polish instead of touting it’s virtues with mayonnaise.
Celia’s details are amazing! Diner “Chez Karl” and a “Misha み 777” vanity plate on the car. Not to mention the post-apocalyptic additions-a little rubble don’t stop the diner.ディテールが凄すぎる！ダイナー名は”メゾン カール”と自動車登録番号が”Misha み 777″になっている。セリア、天才！
I wanted to do my own version of the trending “trash/ junk culture” look, but instead of ratchet I wanted to give it a polished, futuristic feel which I feel more acclimated towards. How’d we do? The top is by Korean brand Margarin Fingers’ 2014 SS collection and everything else is a mix from my closet I grabbed to match it all.
This outfit was directly inspired by the “hamburger” bangle from this SS 2014 season by Facetasm. The brand teamed up with art group “magma” to produce a few accessories that were also inspired by “junk culture”. The pieces are made of wood and carved into junk food, with the black bangle being my favorite (it separates into parts, so you can “make your own”). Magma isn’t a stranger to kitschy accessories, selling a plethora of oddities on their online site “shock the world”. Their book “magma izm” is a gem. Also check out more on Facetasm, like the 2014 fW collection that just showed at tokyo fashion week.
