It was CUNE’s goal today to “make you feel sick”, as that was the theme (kimochi warui) of tonight’s show. It debuted the brand at Tokyo Fashion Week and I was abnormally, seriously weirdly and sickly interested in the brand’s show myself, especially after seeing the current 2012 aw collection catalogue where every model’s eyeballs are rolling up inside their heads. Oh and there are “intestines” spilling out of a summer dress. It’s fucking WEIRD. I had to see this!
So what we had were very casual, almost “vacation”-wear urban clothing in button-ups, tank tops and summer dresses, but with prints made for the funny house. It was all kitsch, luckily, but the models were so serious in their walking panache it was hard to tell if it was REALLY kitsch, or if the brand is totally serious.
The patterns included cut kiwi fruit, a finger with a *wart* on it, those plastic cages you keep crickets and other insects in, an upside down Husky dog pup, and something that looked like a Japanese nabe pot of stew…or was it an oyster eating a green pepper?! I couldn’t tell…
But it didn’t make me sick! C’mon you can’t warn us first, or we might expect something REALLY gross. Instead, I would say that it’s charming. Would you agree, or are you about to lose your lunch?
