In an interview the other day Anna dello Russo said about attending the fashion shows, “It’s important to go. It’s like going to church…it helps you keep the faith.”
When I read this I stood up from my computer desk and gave an ovation (Not figuratively, LITERALLY). She’s totally right, you know! I was invited to a certain designer’s show in New York a few years ago and while it wasn’t my *personal* style, it was very glamorous and beautiful. So many of the women in the audience were so excited to be there and they looked fabulous…I thought about the importance of fashion in action (whether shows or presentations) too as it revived me, and made me feel…well, *happy* inside. It kept the faith, for sure.
So! I thought it was time to go back to Tokyo Fashion Week shows that I haven’t mused upon yet but still rocked my world.
Speaking of rock, it’s time for GVGV. This brand’s singular signature is the mix of masculinity and femininity. It’s all a chop off designer MUG herself…I caught her red-handed wearing a badass Marios Schwab graphic tee with tights while DJing last week. And if there is another signature, it’s that it is ALWAYS soooo on the ball with trends for the upcoming season. It’s painful, really. Because at first you’ll see it and it’s like “errr….” and then a month or two passes and you feel this burning in your loins of total necessity. “I must have all the things!” Like when those hobbits all went crazy in The Lord of The Ring. I’m already pouring through the catalog, wailing because I didn’t make it to the exhibit to order….
Ok, so what trend did designer MUG’s magic 8-ball pick up this time?
Paisley… usually, it’s the death of me. But frak if MUG didn’t make paisley look cool..especially on these insignia-designs at the shoulders. It’s almost as if they aren’t paisley at all… they’re like ninja stars or skull and crossbones. This paisley *will* cut you.
The shimmery textiles and glittery shoes also stole the show for me. As did Mami’s dreamy photos of the event…makes you wish you were there doesn’t it?!
Sing the hymn: “oh, glitter clutch, how I am overcome by theeeeee”
Also, speaking of picking out cool looks I have a nice feature in this month’s SO-EN that sees me going head to head with Mago from BEAMS on the best looks and trends from Tokyo Fashion Week. Check it out, k!
