Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854, which was the end of the era known as “Edo” in Japan (~1868) and a period in which a number of treasured arts such as geisha, ukiyo-e, and Kabuki were born. Louis Vuitton’s Omotesando store has only been around since 2002, but on the occasion of its 13th birthday, the interior saw a total remodel and re-opened earlier this year to the public. Finally last week we were invited for a housewarming party which paid tribute to the Edo period with a traditonal cherry blossom party (o-hanami). A live blooming sakura tree commanded the center of the room while ninjas manned the door, and we were treated to a Kabuki performance by one of the most popular and promising young Kabuki actors Matsuya Onoe. As you’ll see, it was a trip through time in more ways that one…
私の好きな英語の表現、「Like bees to honey」。
Tokyoites love miumiu like they love drinking on weekdays. So it was no surprise that a new standalone boutique on Omotesando would make for incredible fanfare. Yes, there was a huge, beautiful party that brought out the ENTIRE industry from here Beijing to Denmark. They even invited over the actresses in their current ads like Mia Goth, and even had special guest Raf Simons and his boyfriend to Tokyo to join in the revelry.Take a look at the recent addition to possibly the world’s most decadently decorated shopping street in Aoyama, Tokyo.
As much as I believe fashion is an utmost important factor in creating your own unique world and persona, there’s a LOT to be said about how makeup helps us get there. And the Make Up For Ever brand- which I use when I am in the mood to be hardcore about my personal style (think black or orange lipstick) is one of the most “fashion” cosmetics brands in the world. I say that because of how it is actually one of the most widely used brands by all makeup professionals in the fashion and entertainment business.
Owned by LVMH now, the founder is actually a makeup artist herself, Dany Sanz, and she’s a Goddess in the makeup community… a game-changer like Comme des Garcons. There is a lot of art involved here in Dany’s style… so I was honored to be a guest at their 30th Anniversary Party held in Paris during fashion week. I also visited the “Hollywood” of Europe, where there were some crazy surprises in store. If you believe fashion is art, then makeup is all that and more. Read on…
There is absolutely no doubt about it, the world is a sneakerhead. From the streets, to couture, and back to the streets, I think the fashion pack is going to be split into two gangs this year: are you stan or not?
Perhaps that’s why the re-release of the Adidas original signature tennis shoe, the “Stan Smith” is making such a deafening buzz. Suddenly, sneakers are the hottest thing around.
Baz Luhrman’s “The Great Gatsby” has been out for awhile in the US, but it just got it’s Japan premier on the 14th. The day beforehand, Prada threw a huge bash at its Aoyama flagship with 40 of the film’s costumes on display for the Catharine Martin x Miuccua Prada collaboration. These costumes were featured in two party scenes in the film, and these two party scenes are probably the main reason any fashion fan will go see the movie. The clothes were taken from Miuccia Prada’s PRADA and Miu Miu archives but they were re-styled just for the film. Apparently Prada and director Baz were friends for 15 years, since Prada made the suit worn by Leo Dicaprio in the wedding scene in Romeo+Juliet.
I am obsessed with 1920s fashion and art. One word: Erte (above). If movie producers weren’t able to reproduce his work (good luck with that, hey!) then these Miuccia Prada creations are the next brilliant choice.
The 40 outfits are on display at the Aoyama boutique on the 6th floor and throughout the 1st floor until the end of the month. It’s worth it to see all of the characters that wear the outfits and their salacious stories.
The party itself was quite decadent, maybe not roaring 20s decadent, but roaring 20oos decadent. There was enough champagne for eons and everyone was dressed to the tens. Most of the celebs were in Prada ss 13 which is one of my favorite collections, yes, BUT with an excuse to wear 1920s fashion I was disappointed more people didn’t get creative :( I mean, one girl was in Alexander Wang! Wang is great, but at a **20s** party? Imagination, please! I did see Maki Nomiya looking like a million in a gown and Sachiko from SHIMA who was wearing an adorable pink chemise. I went with the lingerie look as well, with a bit of noir in a vintage Limi Feu dress, crsytal studded heels, and hair pinned in metallic “waves”. A little old, a little new.
