FROM BALLOONS TO LEGOS, NEW FASHION WORK FROM DAISY BALLOON ルーンにレゴ、デザイナー兼アーティストのDAISY BALLOONによるファッション新作がどれも目新しく刺激的。

Rie Hosokai calls herself a balloon artist, although most of her floaty sculptures take the form of dresses and gowns. So then it was a surprise to me to open up one of my favorite technology blogs this morning and see her and her partner Takashi Kawada’s work as duo “Daisy Balloon” being featured for a LEGO dress they made for PARCO last year. One thing led to another and I`m back on the Daisy Balloon website checking out the latest collections. They are stunning, to say the least!

細貝里枝。自称「バルーンアーティスト」。しかし、彼女のフワっとした、まるで彫刻のような作品の大部分は、ドレスやガウンを型どっている。今朝、私のお気に入りのテクノロジー系のブログのひとつ、開いたときに飛び込んできた、コラボのLEGOドレス！去年、PARCOのために制作されたものだった。気になって、久し振りに彼女とパートナーであるアートディレクター河田孝志のユニット”Daisy Balloon”のサイトに戻って最新の作品をチェックしてみた。…それはもう、なんと言っても、気絶するかと思った。みんな素晴らし過ぎた！

I have often said that new silhouettes are extremely difficult to invent in fashion anymore (everything’s been done already!) but not only is designing with balloons quite innovative, but Rie & Takashi took it another step further by incorporating balloons with illustrations and patterns printed on them for some next-level artistry.

私もそうだけどよく業界評論家が言ってるのは、現代のファッションシーンにおいて、新しいシルエットを考案や開発するのはとても難しい (…全てはもう、すでに完成されているから！)そんな中で、バルーンでデザインをとるという試みは、とても革新的だった。しかし里枝はすでに別の段階にいて、遥か先を行っていた。イラストレーション、パターン、プリントを融合させた、次の段階へ向けて、より芸術性を高めて。

Making dresses out of non-fibrous materials like plastic is not new, but making them out of objects is always fun to see from an artistic perspective.

糸などの繊維が全く無いものからドレスを仕立てるのって、例えばプラスチックは真新しいものでもないけど、そういう変わった素材を芸術的な観点から見るのは毎回とても楽しい。

ディオールが主役のミーシャジャネット dir. 最新作「Le Jardin Japonais」。刹那的な美しさを放つ桜の中で。トップモデルのSAKI ASAMIYAが出演！

What is it about the Sakura season that comes off as something forged from beautiful witchery? Yes, beautiful. But witchery. Mother nature’s spell. So when it came time to cast a model, location, and theme for this DIOR-centric shoot, I knew it had to be among the cherry blossoms. It’s very easy to make the flowers appear pretty and light, but I’m not about to take the easy way out. How to give it a slight edge?

Step one : cast hot girl Saki Asamiya as the model. She’s edgy with a capital BITCH.

Step two: ask hair stylist Yoko Sato to make her blonde and from a glamorous past..but with no allusion to any specific era. perhaps she’s from the future?

Step three: get super talented makeup artist Ebara on the team and give him free reign to use the face as a canvas

Finally, step four: have photographer Ban Yanzhou shoot this creature as a spirit among the blooms, neither here nor there nor anywhere, with a pallid blue worldview.

When the Sakura fade, so does the spirit…. But her fabulous wardrobe stays behind. This was my final fashion shoot for NEWTIDE as their guest fashion director for 6 months. Thank you! *takes her bow*

四季折々の日本の風物詩。そのうちダントツに華やかで、美しいと評されるのが春を象徴する桜。蕾が開いたかと思うと瞬きをする間に満開になり、そして散って行く様が儚くも情緒溢れる日本を代表する花。その桜の舞う様子とChristian Diorのエレガンスが一つになったとき。それだけで誰もが息を呑む美しい画が撮れることは間違いない。ですが、そこで一筋縄でいかせないのがミーシャ流。どこかにエッジーな要素を加えたい！

とはいえ洋服は手を加える必要がないほど美しいわけで、だったらこだわるのはモデル。ということで今をときめくitモデル麻宮彩希にモデルを依頼。彼女のエレガントでありながらどこかパンクスピリット溢れるアティテュードは今回のストーリーに不可欠。
お次はヘア。ヘアアーティストのYOKO SATOさんに、２０sグラマラスを彷彿とさせるフィンガーウェーブを、どこの時代にもあてはまらない形で表現してほしいとオーダーし、彼女にウィッグを制作してもらいました。そしてもちろんメイク。アーティスティックなメイクには一家言あり、のEBARAにお願いしモデルの顔をキャンバスに見立ててアーティスティックなメイクを施す。
最後に要はフォトグラファー。若手再注目株のBao Yanzhouが、この完成した人物像を極めつけのテクニックで木の妖精に仕上げました。

こちらは、６ヶ月NEWTIDEマガジンでゲストファッションディレクターをつとめた最後の作品です。半年、ありがとうございました！！

さて、桜の花びらが散るようにこの妖精も消えていっていくかのような、刹那的な美しさをご覧ください：

You know what they say about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Can we have the myth that at the end of the Sakura season is a DIOR bag? Pretty please, make it REAL. I BELIEVE IN FAIRIES AND DIOR.

コレも期待以上！コムデギャルソン発５代目新ブランド「NOIR」が本格的発表！デザイナーは川久保令の弟子、KEI NINOMIYA氏。

I gotta get straight to the point: Comme des Garcons has released its newest brand, and it’s 5th designer to emerge from the CdG universe. This is HUGE. CdG doesn’t produce new brands like theyre candy or anything. The newest protege’s name is Kei Ninomiya and his brand is called NOIR.

It is incredible.

昨日と引き続き、CDGといえば、端的に言うと、CDGが最新ブランドをリリースし、CDGから５番目のデザイナーが現れました。これは大ニュース。CDGはキャンディーみたいな新ブランドはプロデュースしない。新しいデザイナーの名はKei Ninomiya、そして彼のブランドの名はNOIR。

それはもう最高。

It was presented during the 2013 FW women’s collection exhibit in Tokyo, along with all of the other CdG brands. It got a few racks and a neat little corner space with a few mannequins, which made anyone visiting quite curious indeed. We were teased with the brand last season, but it was with samples that had no tags, names or anything. I was asking my friend there, “What is this?? It’s cool,” and she answered, “It’s a new brand…it doesn’t have a name yet. It kind of just showed up!” But this time it had line sheets, prices, and tags…does this mean it’s a done deal?!

I hope so! It’s SO good. For example the laser cutting to look like rotting fabric, the geometric basket weaving, the asymmetrical silhouettes with perfect tailoring, the 3D knitted appliqués, and the embroidery of webbed flowers around metal rings. Every single piece features some kind of innovative technique on the best fabric your fingers have the privilege to touch. And it’s SO detailed, all the way to the lining which sometimes features hidden inner pockets.

ギャルソンの2013年秋冬ウィメンズ総合展示会展で何気なく発表されてました。ラックとマネキン数本で出され、とても興味を湧かせる、キュリアスな展示でした。前回の展示会でも不思議なアバンギャルドな作品が出されていたのは覚えているけど、まだネームだってなかったし、これもまたスタッフの友達に「これなんですか？」と聞いても「さー・・。」って返答。その不思議めいたカルチャーのおかげでずっと頭の中に残り、期待をしていた。

そして今回はなんと！期待以上でした！生地にダメージがあるかのようなレザーのカッティング、幾何学模様のバスケットのウィービング、完璧なテーラリングでアシンメトリーなシルエット、3Dのニットのアップリケ、針金を巻いた花刺繍、などなど。どの服も、ライニングまで自分の手で自由に触れることのできる生地を用いた、ある種の革新的技術を特徴としている。

しかもタッグもついていて、オーダーシーツも出され、本格ブランド化されたよう！これはもしや、手に入れられるようになった？！

The embroidery is also so incredible.

で刺繍が驚くほど素晴らしかったし！

And since it’s a new brand it’s still very accessible…economically, anyway. I could actually afford to pick up several pieces and not write off my next of kin. Of course, we have to find it first…I think it will be in Trading Museum in the GYRE building on Omotesando soon. I absolutely can’t wait to get my pieces and see more from Kei.

そしてまだ新しいブランドなので、雑誌にも出してない、情報が少ない割にはとても近づきやすくて、経済的です。私も何着か選ぶ余裕はあった。もちろん、一番乗りで手に入れなくっちゃね。噂では表参道のGYREビルにあるTRADING MUSEUMに入るらしいです。私の選んだ服がはやく欲しいです。こういうサプライズ入りのブランドの出し方はエキサイティング！それに、もっとKeiの作り出すものが見たいです。

モードページ”WONDERLAND”新着！2013年春夏のアイコン的なルックをPOPなスチームパンクと合わせた斬新なミックススタイルで不思議な世界が広がる

New NEWTIDE editorial up! Featuring the season’s ICONIC looks from the runway! But…what happens when you mix luxury with POP, steampunk, and a mysterious girl who seems to have crash-landed from somewhere very, very far from her home….? Toto, maybe this isn’t Kansas anymore…

For this shoot I was both stylist and creative director and I was inspired by the “Lost Boys” of Peter Pan. It features upcoming superstars, model SAYO and photographer BAO YANGZHOU. Enjoy!

中国のファッション雑誌「NEWTIDE」のために撮ったエディトリアルが新着！今回はビッグメゾンの2013年春夏のアイコン的なルックを使って、ファンタジーストーリーをファッションで語っています。イメージはラグジュアリーとPOPなスチームパンクという斬新なミックススタイル。更に、このミステリアスな主役の子は本当に地球の人なのか、どこのものなか、不思議さに浸している世界を描いてます。インスピレーションは「OZ」のドロシーと「ピーターパン」のロストボーイズ・・・・
