With a lookbook as dangerously cute as this, you want to drop a house on it. This brand always shuffles between reality and fantasy like a deep dream, and this time they are presenting it as the cutest nightmare you’ll hope isn’t merely just a figment of your imagination. With the most popular “it” girl of the moment Kozue Akimoto in the starring role, Bortsprungt proudly presents to you: “BORTS HORROR SHOW”…
This is the story of a girl lost in an enchanted forest, with her horrifically charming story playing out in drawings and patterns on the fabric. There are rabbits with horns, sheep with wings and other curious monsters frolicking about. The hand-drawn characters and other sketches strewn on babydoll and lolita-esque clothing is by none other than Yurica Gotoh, one of the most-watched artists in the biz today. She’s got a knack for playing on old-world charm but with lots of twists. See more of her work here where we worked together on “Doodle on the Table”.
This brand recently went through a new exchange of hands behind the scenes, although Yurica has stuck with it, making for a smooth transition for the passionate fans of her artistic dark humour. The label can’t be mentioned without giving credit to its founders, art director YuYa (now at Melantrick Hemlight) and Nagi Noda, who tragically died years ago. She was a beautifully and insanely creative soul, and her twisted sense of beauty, comedy and ridiculous ideas about fashion were so unique they’re still influencing trends today through Kowa Kawaii.
