I woke up this morning and found that one more year of my formidable 20s has passed in Tokyo. The 8th, in fact! I do feel very lucky to be able to live in this great metropolis-it became a dream of mine while in high school, and once I have a goal I go straight for it. Well, getting here was the easy part; lasting so long in Japan has been the real challenge (It feels like people come and go as fast as the sakura). And not only lasting, but being able to do what I love, which is fashion, is even more of an incredible feat. I don’t have the formula exactly, but I know that it is a combination of timing, luck, skill and lots and lots of f****n hard work.
A lot has changed in the Japanese fashion industry in the last 8 years. The goth-lolis have come and gone. Yamambas, mambas, kogyaru, koakuma, gyaru, all coming and going. The Orbient, Velafarre, Vanilla….gone. The term “Real Clothes” will hopefully be the next to get the bucket… (*wishing*). A lot will say that the industry here has gone downhill. I don’t exactly agree. Those people were disillusioned with the bubble age (*lalalala* I don’t wanna hear about it).

There is a horribly long latency period between finding something/someone interesting here until they are given the opportunity to shine. It is one of the reasons why I began this blog and I cannot express how happy I am to now have this platform, so I can respectfully bypass all of the red tape to talk about what is interesting and noteworthy to me. I wish I could update three times a day, but I would need three times the hours in a day to do so!
