いろいろなものが過剰になりすぎた世界に、アキコアオキが発信するプリミティブ。AKIKOAOKI AW 2017 TOKYO　

 

デザイナーである限り毎シーズン服を作るわけだけれど、”こんなに服が溢れているのにまだ作る”、”服を作るとこんなにゴミがでる”そういう思いとのジレンマを毎回感じているそう。

そういった思いから、”サステイナブル”なファッション、本来人間が持っているプリミティブな生きる力や民族性をテーマに掲げ2017awコレクションに取り掛かったと語っていた。

プリミティブというだけあって、原点回帰を意識したとは言っても、やっぱりアキコアオキらしく細部までこだわった”凝った”ものづくりになっていて、1ルック1ルックの迫力や存在感がとても強いと感じた。絶賛の声が止まないAKIKOAOKI 2017aw collection をチェック。

Designers must keep up with the pace of demand, by creating new collections every season (that’s the demand of society and newness, not the actual demand of consumers, but that is another story). “There is already so much clothing in the world, but I still have to make more” or “Making clothing creates so much waste, but I still have to do it.” Akiko of Akikoaoki said she feels this way while designing and creating her collections, and from this she came up with the theme of her collection, “Primitive”. Her idea is to simplify clothes-making, and going back to the beginning of it, like a primitive race.

But even though she says it’s “going back to the basics”, this is still Akikoaoki we are talking here, and industry insiders in Japan know she has a very strong identity and passion for details. Each look still came with impact and purpose, and I am not exaggerating when I say she had one of the most impressive shows of the entire Tokyo Fashion Week. Check out her collection here!

エプロンや袴のようなボトムス、中には民族的な要素を感じる。巻くという行為自体が原始的だと感じたという理由で、巻きスカートも登場させてた。また、ハウンドトゥースやトレンチのようなクラシックなものでも原始的な要素を表現。そこに、ギャルのようなハイヒールや網タイツを合わせるということこそがアキコアオキらしさでもあると思う。

ショッキングピンクや現職の緑など鮮やかな色がコレクションのあちこちに登場して目立っているけれど、それは民族衣装からインスピレーションを得たという。また、ヌーディな色やシックなカラーパレットはブランドが目指すエレガントさをあらわしているそうだ。

前シーズンは女性のシルエットをデフォルメしたコレクションだったが、今回は身体と服の間の空間を意識したということで、がちがちしていない、力の抜けた都会的で大人っぽいムードが漂っていた。

目を引くおお振りのピアスは、masaki shimizuとのコラボレーション。ITSのファイナリストにもなった実力者だ。

注目を集める若手デザイナーとして、今後のファッション業界を作っていく責任やおもしろさを感じていると語る青木氏。デザインや演出だけでなく、ビジネスのあり方やアプローチなどもいろいろなアイデアが出てきそうだ。ただ”服”を作るブランドはもう需要がなく、そこにどんな付加価値をつけられるか？彼女は今そんなことを自問自答している。大きな才能と可能性を彼女がどう使っていくのか、今後がますます楽しみなブランドだ。

Aprons, hakama-style pleated pants, and even tribal elements all make an appearance in the collection for AW 2017. She even created wrap skirts, with the idea that wrapping is the ultimate in primitive fashion. she then picks up on houndstooth or trench coats, also completely classic and basic fashion items, but matches them with gyaru-style stiletto heels in that weird Tokyo-Fashion clash that she does so well (I am always so curious about where these perspex kyaba-jo style heels come from and why!).

You can’t miss them, but still take a moment to look at the jewelry created for the show, by masaki shimizu. he was a finalist of the renowned ITS Competition, and his skill is showing! I saw the pieces during the exhibition and he also uses hollowed out bird eggs dyed a myriad of colors, and then turned into abstract earrings- they are GORGEOUS.

As a young designer who is also pegged as being one of the most noteworthy up and comers, Akiko says she is feeling the pressure. But she is taking it in stride and it feels like she won’t have a problem to come of with ways to make her business grow and pull the industry up along with her. We don’t need just fashion brands anymore, each label has to carve out a space or pull in something extra to keep the momentum going. With a generation of young ingenues around her, I don’t see her having any problem with finding collaborators or fans. Looking forward to more Akikoaoki from here on out!
