不思議の国からやってきた”風雲女児” akikoaoki × ChinamiTokizawa の2017ssコレクション “It’s a mad world and I’m the maddest woman” AKIKO AOKI SS 2017.

“女の子像”というのはひとそれぞれだ。可憐な笑顔とその立ち振る舞いでみんなを虜にするローマの休日のアン王女や、仕事に恋に一生懸命なプラダを着た悪魔のアンドレア、知的で優しいハリポッターのハーマイオニー、勇敢でまっすぐな風の谷に住むナウシカ、生意気だけど脆いレオンのマチルダ…何かに例えるとすれば、AKIKOAOKIのデザイナー青木明子は不思議の国のアリスみたいな感じだろうか。

彼女はロンドンのセントマーチン留学時代以外はずっと女子校に通い、幼稚園から高校はカトリック系のすごく厳しい校風の中で育ったという。ずっとルールに縛られながらの学校生活では、唯一休みの日のファッションが自己主張の場だったと語っている。アリスが大好きだった読書(退屈しのぎにいつも読んで空想を広げていた) は、青木明子にとってのファッションだったのだ。そしてウサギ(彼女にとっては山縣良和や坂部三樹郎に当たるだろうか。「「ヨーロッパで出会った新人たち」展を観て、大きな衝撃を受けたという。)に出会い、ウサギが入っていった穴に吸い込まれた。

今、その”不思議のファッションの国”で自由にものづくりをする彼女はますます力をつけている。本と空想の世界だけが楽しかったあの頃から、いろいろな世界を知り勇敢に立ち向かう彼女のコレクションは毎シーズンアップデートされ、業界人を驚かせている。2017ssコレクションも本当に素晴らしかったのでぜひレポートさせてほしい。

What does a girl look like? There’s a stereotype of femininity I`m aware of since coming to Japan, so much so that there’s a word for it that doesn’t translate so well; “joshi-ryoku” (女子力). It’s softness, cleverness, youthful charm and subservience and it’s seen as something powerful and a boon to have. For our designer Akiko Aoki here, she grew up in strict girls-only catholic schools until her stint at Central St Martins abroad, and she found that she could only become the girl she was inside while discovering fashion outside of school. This has led her to her signature style of uniform-style clothes with bouts of subversive sexiness and chaos.

今まで東京ニューエイジで発表をしていたAKIKOAOKIだけれど、2017SSからセルフプロデュースに取り組み、独自でランウェイを披露した。”不思議のファッションの国”で、自分の居場所を見つけつつあるようだ。

今シーズンは90年代、女性の社会進出が進んだ時代の女性の強さとメタル(金属)的な冷たさをベースにコレクション製作をしたという。肩を強調したメンズライクなイメージとウエストを絞り腰を強調した女性的シルエットが共存する。また、花柄の昇華プリントやフロッキー加工を施した生地にはすこし少女らしさも見受けられる。どちらかというと、ビッグシルエットで身体のラインを消すようなスタイルが多い”ここのがっこう”の卒業生の中で、彼女は”女性”であることに喜びを見出すような服作りをしてきた。今回は今までよりも大人っぽさとセクシーさが加わり、新境地へと踏み出した模様。

個人的には肩のディテールに注目したい。肩を強調すると言ったが、80年代の肩パットスーツのように尖ったものではなく、丸いのだ。極端に短いパフスリーブみたいな感じ。中には、見頃と縫い合わされてないものがあるのに気づくだろうか？これは、ITSコンテストでファイナリストになったチナミトキザワが手がけたスティックジュエリーの応用。もともとはニップレスの素材で作る、肌にくっつくジュエリーが彼女のシグニチャーである。（チナミトキザワについての詳しい生地はクリスタルブログで書いているので、ぜひ読んでみてください！素晴らしい作品の写真もたくさん載ってます！ )

また、ラバー素材のドレスもチナミトキザワとAKIKOAOKIのコラボ作品だそう。生地と肌の融合、境界を曖昧にすることを狙って挑戦したと、青木さんは話していた。チナミトキザワはAKIKOAOKINOの不思議の国の、マッドハッターとなるのか？今後のクリエーションからも目が離せない。

Until now, Akiko Aoki has shown on the same runway as a few other new-generation designers from Coconogacco (the amazing rogue fashion school run by Antwerp grads Mikio Sakabe and Yoshikazu Yamagata), but from SS 2017 she ventured out on her own. She was inspired by the rise of strong women in the 90s, with a mix of big mannish silhouettes and teeny-tiny waists. Every season she updates her designs little by little, without straying from her signatures. And while she has used pink very sparingly in her collections until now, she chose to employ a floral print with a flocky texture that was so “girlie” it actually became one of the most standout looks of the entire Tokyo Fashion Week SS 2017.

Check out the shoulder pads on some of the looks. In fact, they aren’t sewn to any of the clothes, they are free agents and “floating”. These floating shoulderpads were made in collaboration with Chinami Tokizawa, a master at sticker jewelry (they are beautiful and myseterious, and you should see what she’s capable of doing here for her ITS finale collection).

Another look that stands out is the rugged rubber sheath dress. This was also handled by Chinami Tokizawa, and it represents the feeling that a lot of the new-gen designers seem to be feeling now; incompleteness is beautiful. Is this also another descriptor to add to “joshi ryoku”?

Looking back at some of these dresses, I see some that didn’t catch my eye at the time but now they make so much sense. This is the power of a designer who creates things that are always one step ahead, even if it never goes mainstream.
